Speak Your Mind!

Query: What three words of advice would you would give one of the Presidental Candidates?

My Response:

If I were to give three words of advice to a presidential canidate, then I would tell them to speak their mind. Many canidates say what they think their supporters would like to hear, and keep their personal opinions to themselves. I believe that if they shared their opinions about a particular issue, then they would get more votes.

Please comment me on your thoughts, thanks! :)

Six months and waiting…

February 6, 2008 at 5:17 pm | In the future | No Comments

In a little more then six months I will be starting highschool. The thought scares me because I won’t know anyone, since I’m going to another highschool (because of an erichment program that will be one of my elecitves). Therefore, I will not know about 1,000 kids in the school. One part that I don’t like about the move is that I will have to change my morning schedule and wake up early, because my parents will not be able to drive me in anymore, and highschool starts earlier than middle school. However, I think that the move will be worthwhile because I will gain skills that will be useful in collage and beyond; some that I would not have gained if I went to my assigned highschool. The reason why I’m nervous about starting high school is because I know that whatever happens during my four years can make either a negative or postive impact on my future goals and plans.
At the same time, the thought of high school exictes me because I will be able to explore a variety of topics in afterschool activities. I think that I will be introduced to a large variety of new people, because I will not be limited to one group, throughout the major portion of the school day.
Since I want to keep my grades up, I will be working even harder in highschool. I will also be taking challenging courses that will test my intellectual ability, and that will also increase my reading comprehension. To prepare for collage I will take 7 credits, which is the recomended amount. To make sure that the courses on my course selection sheet are at my ability level, i have conferenced with my teachers, parents, and even some of the teachers from the highschool that I will be attending.

Why do we celebrate Martin Luther King Day?

January 18, 2008 at 11:20 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments

martin-luther-king-face.jpg

I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
.
Martin Luther King was a courageous man that all of the following generations will remember. This is why we have no school on Monday (so we can remembers the past events that have happened several years ago between the blacks and whites). I think that we should have school on Monday because only a minority of students take the time to remember Martin Luther King independantly or with their family. Therefore, I believe that we should go to school and attend an assembly which educates students about Martin Luther King and his history.Remembering the events that have happened so many years ago helps people to accept other people for who they are, and not judge them by their nationallity or race. If Martin Luther King had not been born then the world as we know it would be very different.

Who will win?

January 7, 2008 at 5:48 pm | In Uncategorized | 2 Comments

                        Hillary Clinton

I predict that Hillary Clinton will win the 2008 presidential ellection because she is well known, and I believe that a lot of people would like her to be the first ever president of the United States. However, it is difficult to predict which canidate will win the ellection because you never know what is going through the voter’s mind. For example, they may not vote for Hillary because they might think that she will get enough votes already, so instead they might vote for the “underdog” to be one of his supporters. Nonetheless, I hope that Hillary will become our next president because I agree with many of her issues that she supports, and Ilike many others, I would like for there to be a woman’s perspective in the way that the goverment is run.

Are you a Democrat or Republican?

Query: “What is the difference between a Democrat and Republican?  When you register to vote at age eighteen, what party will you register for and why?

                                                    Go to fullsize image

As you may know, the primary elections are coming up shortly and it is time for the first step: choosing a few democrats and republicians who will run for president in the 2008 election. One general difference between them is democtratics are more open to change, where as republicans favor traditions and rituals. One of the most noticeable differences between a Democratic and Republican is that Democtrats usually favor an limited role of government in society, and believe that such dependence on the private division can help achieve larger goals of freedom and leadership. Below is a list of some of the issues that Democrats and Republicans feel strongly about.

               Democtrats                                                                Republicans

against abortion                   abortion should be legal

Strong regulations  needed to protect  environment strong envirormental laws harm economy

oppose prayer in school                                             favor prayer in school

strong anti-discrimination laws are needed     strong anti-discrimination laws are not needed

Increase taxes on wealthy to pay for public programs         lower taxes to help economy

When I register to vote at the age of 18, I will most likely become a republican because I feel strongly about the pro-life movement (against abortion) and I favor traditions in our culture. I also believe that the government should be active to help conserve our environment and make sure that the citizens of the United States are following the laws that are listed in the constitution that was made by our great founders of America.

Imagine the Impossible

December 17, 2007 at 12:34 pm | In response blogging | No Comments

I believe that this movie was to try to make the viewer buy the product by trying to make it seem like the impossible is possible when they buy this product. The producer(s) of this movie do this by making everyone seem like the young girl is insane when she mentions all of the features on the phone. The producer(s) also put in an emotional scene where the mother of the girl cries because she believes that there is something wrong with her daughter. This immediately draws the viewer in and grabs their attention because they want to see what is wrong with the girl. This scene in the short commercial may make the viewer think that the commercial is part of a movie, so the viewer will not automatically change the channel, or in this case, go to another site.

I interpreted the main theme in this movie as being that if you think outside of the box then almost anything is possible. I believe that this theme makes the viewer want to buy this product because it amazes the viewer when they see how many features are available on this phone.   the-essay.wmv

Who is the Most Influencial Person in Your Life?

December 13, 2007 at 5:29 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

festa de yemanja - bahia, brazilQuery: “Outside of parents who has influenced your life more than anyone else; who had an impact on your life and what was it about that person that meant something to you?”

So many people in my life inspire me, so it was really hard to pick just one person. If I could one person though, then I would pick my Grandmother.

When my Grandmother was around the age of 28, she came over to the United States from Brazil because she wanted to have the opportunites that exist in the United States, that she wouldn’t be able to get in Brazil. I think that my Grandmother had to be a courageous person to make this move because when she moved into the United States she didn’t anyone and had to start her life all over again. However, I am thankful that she made this move because if she didn’t then I would have never been born, since she got married and had twelve children in the United States.

Unfortunately, about 4 years ago my Grandmother passed away, so I didn’t get to spend as much time with her as I wanted to. However, I writing this post made me think of all the great memories that I had with her, which made me thankful; which is especially imoportant around this time of the year.

“I wonder……”

December 5, 2007 at 3:28 pm | In assigned topic | 1 Comment

I wonder how much my life would change if I learned online instead of going to school.

Thinking about this question made me realize that I would rather prefer going to a school rather then learning online. One reason why I feel this way is because I would not know as many people and therefore have less friends.Another negative part of this situation is my life would not be as valuabe as it is today because I wouldn’t get to learn as much because there would not be much social interaction and therefore I would not get to be engaged in class discussions and not as active a student as I am right now, all leading to not having as good as a job that I wish for after I finish school.

Why should students come to class?

November 16, 2007 at 5:15 pm | In response blogging | 1 Comment

                                         Classroom 2

I recently finished reading a blog called Why Should Students Come to Class? One of the questions that they asked was what should we learn in a classroom? Well I obviously believe that we should learn the four standard subjects (math, science, language arts, and social studies) along with world language and students should learn how to play an instrument of their choice. I think that it’s important to learn these subjects because you need to know them to be successful in your job, and any language is essential to learn because if you travel to another country then you may one of the few people that speaks English. The second question asked “what are the things you think are so essential in the classroom that they can’t be produced in a virtual space?” Well I found this question difficult at first, but then I thought back to my previous experiences when I have been on an online tutoring service and have found it very helpful because they use a whiteboard to teach you step by step how to solve math equations. Although I believe that a student would be able to get a decent education without having to leave their house, there are some things that students would not be able to learn. For instance, social interaction with the student’s peers and teachers play an important role in becoming successful in the future. If a student did not go to school then they would not gain the needed social skills needed because they would not meet nearly half of the people that they would meet at school. They would not be able to learn about this because physical and or emotional gestures such as tone of voice, attitude, physical gestures, and laughter would be difficult to transmit via the computer.
